Crude City defeats Spindletop
Crude City Roller Derby utilized a stingy defense, and a consistent offense to defeat the Spindletop Rollergirls of Beaumont, 116-50 Saturday night in Robstown, Texas.
The home team 3rd Coast Offenders opened up the bout with strong skating as Lit Mis Psychlone scored a 10-4 jam, followed by a 5-0 jam by Private Been Jamming’ (PBJ). Lit Mis Psychlone scored a 9-0 jam in the fourth jam of the first half as Crude City increased its lead to 24-4.
Spindletop tightened up its defense and shut out the home team for the next three jams. AndyConDuh scored the largest jam of the bout for the team from Beaumont with nine points in the seventh jam, and Slam followed up with a two point jam for the team in white narrowing the 3rd Coast lead to 24-15 after eight jams.
Both teams traded scoring jams until the 12th jam when Spindletop struck again. Ruby Ridikule scored a 7-0 jam for the visiting team to narrow the lead to 30-26. However, Crude City shut out the team in white for the last four jams of the half.
Private Been Jammin’ scored a 9-0 jam for 3rd Coast in the 13th jam, and Lit Mis Psychlone finished out the half scoring a 4-0 final jam. That gave the 3rd Coast Offenders a 46-26 lead at halftime.
The Crude City Roller Derby solidified their defense in the second half. The visiting team was able to score only twice in the first eleven jams of the second half. The 3rd Coast Offenders earned lead jammer in eight of those jams, and outscored Spindletop 29-9 in the first eleven jams.
In the 12th jam, the home team scored its biggest jam of the night. Lit Mis Psychlone scored a 14-0 jam, and Private Been Jammin’ followed up with a 4-0 jam in the 13th jam. That gave Crude City a 98-35 lead with less than ten minutes left in the bout.
The team from Beaumont struck back with a 4-0 jam by Ruby Ridicule, and a 3-2 jam by Wildcat to narrow the margin a bit. But Lit Mis Psychlone and PBJ each struck back with 5-0 jams to move the lead out to 110-47.
AndyConDuh scored a 4-2 jam for Spindletop, and each team scored four points in the final jam as the clock ran out. The final score of 116-50 was posted on the scoreboard and, after a little celebration, the Corpus Christi area team took a victory lap.
Perhaps the most important statistic of the bout was Crude City gaining lead jammer status 21 times, compared to Spindletop’s six times. This allowed the home team to limit the opposing team’s scoring and control the great majority of scoring opportunities all bout long.
The top scorer for the 3rd Coast Offenders and the bout was Lit Mis Psychlone with 60 points. Private Been Jammin’ scored 43 points, and gained lead jammer status nine out of ten jams for the home team. Creepshow scored nine points for the Crude City skaters. Leading blockers for the home team were Texas T, Sideshow Sally, Brat Poison, and Stealth.
Leading scorers for the Spindletop Rollergirls were AndyConDuh with 18 points, Ruby Ridikule with 11 points, and Sadie Mae Care with 10 points. Top blockers for the team from Beaumont included Messica, Eradica, Wildcat, and Crush Limb-Brawl.
